Speed paints 11&12

Speed paints of forests, using only 50 brushstrokes. Not entirely sure how closely I followed that stipulation.

Tree Sketches pt 3

I stand by my assessment that being left handed makes me group pictures weirdly in sketchbooks. Yup.

Speed paints 7&8

Speed paints of Ivan Shishkin paintings. And I thought the Miyazaki ones were cruel…I just now realized I had cut off a chunk of the bear painting while working, hence some missing trees. Ah well.

Tree sketches pt 2

More tree sketches. Maybe I'm making excuses for myself, but I feel like being left handed kinda messes me up when I draw in my sketchbook. I always start at the farthest edge on the right, hence the first couple trees kinda being cut off.

Tree sketches

Even more trees!!! A mix of pencil, marker and digital.

Tree memory paints

Trees sketched from observation and colored at home from notes/memory. I had to take screengrabs of these because saving it as a jpeg resulted in very wonky looking colors. Not sure why!

Pine cone color

Tree speed paints

Our assignment was to go to Tower Hall and do some tree speed paints– thanks to the changing light and feeling clumsy painting outside with my computer, I ended up finishing these at home (with photo reference, whoops).

Pine cone

Rendered in graphite– this scan isn't very flattering, I may try again.

Our first homework assignment– create two forest scenes from 10 abstract stain thumbnails.
